Do upvotes matter as much when you're trying to promote something on Reddit?

Been testing different Reddit promo angles lately — some organic posting on personal subreddit and comments in other niche related subreddits.
One thing I’m still not totally sure about is how much upvotes actually move the needle.

From what I’ve seen, posts with only 1-2 upvotes still bring traffic if they hit the right timing or subreddit, and I never got more than that unfortunately.

So I’m wondering — do upvotes really affect visibility in a measurable way, or is it more about engagement in comments, post age, and subreddit activity?
Would appreciate insights from anyone who’s been running Reddit promo at scale.
